With the third royal wedding in a decade last year we have been treated to lots of wedding fever in recent times. Brides everywhere are connecting back to nature, looking for that special twist and meaning to their choices.
The British flower industry has been enjoying a resurgence lately and this has now been elevated to new levels with Megan & Harry’s British florals and the publicity surrounding the Flowers from the Farm stand at Chelsea flower show in 2018.
With so much going on what will the brides of 2019 be choosing?
Choose Seasonal
Seasonal flowers are by far the hottest trend for 2019. Choosing local, low carbon foot print and flowers grown with love by independent flower farmers up and down the country. Blooms can be picked at just the right stage of development and do not need to be shipped half way around the world. Peonies in December may be pretty but their effect on the environment is bad.
The florists using British blooms will more than likely have also taken a stand against using floral foam. ( spongy blocks made from plastic containing lots nasty ingredients & Chemicals ) They soaks up water like a sponge and acts both as a preservative to prolong the life of the flowers and a support to hold them in place – but it’s super bad for the environment and can not be recycled. Florists are switching to no non floral foam in their droves, experimenting with chicken wire, tape and twig structures instead.
Enchanted Forest
Magical woodland themes will be very popular. The idea of bringing the woodland inside with quirky details and tailored hanging greenery. Hessian, Organic cotton as a base with hand dyed silks used to add a touch of luxury.
Freeform flowers with a wild & unstructured look, lots of greenery with seed pods and berries. Shades of green, from emerald to silver
Untraditional elements do away with the need for table centrepieces. With log runners, hanging foliage and hoop chandeliers taking centre stage instead. Decorated tree sculptures and twisting gnarly branches or moss covered pieces completing the woodland theme.

Shades of Purple
With ultraviolet 18-3838 being the Pantone of the year 2018 it no surprise that this will also be featuring in 2019, in many shades. From soft violet through to dark velvet. ultraviolet is here to stay. Used to lift greenery and as a great complement to silver foliage purples can give that pop of colour which is sometimes needed to lift a scheme.

Mix and Match Big Blooms
Brides will be loving big focal blooms in 2019, from Ranunculus to Roses & Dahlias. With a huge range of colours to choose from and a mix and match approach to give a natural folksy feel. Dahlias teemed with Roses and Zinnias, or Anemone with Ranunculus & Roses. Colour will feature very heavily here, with deep rich tones of Merlot, burgundy & purple and the contrast of intricate layers of ruffled petals with ordered the ordered symmetry of a Dahlia.

Hanging Floral
Hanging floral centrepieces will continue into 2019. They are my biggest request and they are getting larger and larger by the day. Single statement pieces such as a living chandelier make a true statement in a marquee or large hall but collections of hoops are also very popular. They work a s a great alternative to table centrepieces allowing more room on the table for décor and dinnerware.
Hoops are also replacing mini bouquets for little bridesmaids as they are easier to hold and play with – especially when they double up as a flower crown!
